On Novel Writing, from Sir Butch
Butch Dalisay's latest blog entry: "Why We Don't Write More Novels (But Should)"
What he says is true. Filipinos don't have trouble churning out poems and short stories, but longer tales are a different matter. I wrote in a past PGS editorial that there are people who believe that the short story in this country has been "done to death". Frankly, I don't mind. There are many short stories written by Pinoys that are wonderful reads. But Sir Butch makes a good point in his post. Here's hoping that the novel-form will also capture the interest of more Pinoy writers.

I posted a comment in the web log. The gist is that there are already tens of thousands of works in Filipiniana catalogs but most works have not been published in decades, and many have not been translated.
Hi Anton. How are you? What you say is true, and indeed it would be a good idea to either reprint these old books or digitize them and put them on the web (given that copyright issues are resolved) so that others can have access to them. Sir Butch, I think, is asking for new stories in the novel form to be written by Pinoy authors.
