Feet, Feet, Feet,... (Updated)

...how many feet you meet!

Here's another crime prompt for the PGS Special Crime/Mystery/Suspense issue:

A 6th human foot is found on Canada's Pacific Coast, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

"Another human foot was found Wednesday on a British Columbia shoreline, the second this week and the sixth within a year in a bizarre mystery that has confounded police. Like most of the others, it was a right foot encased in a running shoe, said Sgt. Mike Tresoor of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He said a citizen spotted it on a beach and no other remains were found.

The latest find and most of the others were recovered within a few miles of each other along island shorelines in the Strait of Georgia, which lies to the south and west of the provincial capital of Vancouver."

Of course, the reasons for this might not be crime related, but wouldn't it be nice to weave a crime story around this mystery?

Isharaine is over in British Columbia right now. Hey, Isha! Here's a mystery for you to solve! Since most of the feet are found in running shoes, don't go sleuthing in sneakers...wear stilleto's! Tobie might like that. :D

Update: The sixth foot was a hoax. But the other feet were real. More detailed reports here, here, and here.

Now that's one heck of a mystery. One severed foot would probably be unremarkable, but six of them is just downright mind-boggling.

I doubt that it would make for a substantial plotline on its own, though -- I mean, now that you hypothetically have a bunch of human feet in cold storage, how do you go about investigating the case?

Ultimately, I must admit that I don't expect much closure here. Considering that the source of the feet involves a large body of water, and considering the lack of "serial killing" cases, I'm sure that the local authorities are wondering how to proceed.

At worst, we'll probably never get any answers to the whole grisly deal, and then the body parts will have to be buried -- appropriately enough, six feet underground. :)
