Winton Lou Ynion 1981-2009

I learned of this via The Spy In The Sandwich: Palanca-winning poet Winton Lou Ynion passed away a few days ago.

According to the Inquirer news report, he died in his condominium unit along Esteban Abada St. in Loyola Heights.

Some have speculated that this may be a hate crime and not just a simple robbery.

I hope that justice is served.

There is a call for donations for his wake here.

until now, i still do not want to believe this. i may be stupid, but until this morning, i still hoped he would come to our class. I've read articles about his death, and even visited the wake, but still, i can't accept the truth.:( honestly, many became emotional as soon as the period ended.
we've only known him for two months, but his influence with our lives really made a difference.we seek for JUSTICE for Sir Ynion. And may his soul rest in peace.:((

:( He's one of my favorite persons in the world. He was our school paper adviser when I was in High School. He was such a gentle and open person who shares his sad stories with us. He also had a good sense of intuition or maybe just solid encouragement, because he used to say after contests that he knew we would win. :( What happened to him was so tragic, but I will always remember him with awe, appreciation and gratitude.

@Anonymous and Frenni: My condolences to you both on the loss of your teacher.

Do your best, do as well as you can, as students. Apply yourselves to your subjects and learn, not just pass. Then, when you graduate, make a difference in a positive way in the circles you run in, just like Mr. Ynion did.

In doing so, I'm sure you will make your teacher proud.

ARE YOU ALL NUTS!!!!! Winton is anything but mabait!! He was such an egocentric freak he puts Narcisus to shame. He does not deserve to die this way though. He should have vanished to oblivion.

@garr_jay_delfin: Though I never met the deceased, I put up this blog entry because I was saddened by the death of a local writer, the way I am saddened by the deaths of two other local writers (Mae Tobias and Alexis Tioseco) not a month after.

No, as far as I know, I am not "nuts" (though it can be argued that putting up a short-fiction magazine in the RP is a sign of mental instability).

Whether Ynion was "gentle, open, and mabait" as some commenters have said, or an "egocentric freak" as you put it, it is very possible that you both are right: That Ynion could have been "gentle, open, and mabait" in his dealings with these others, and an "egocentric freak" in his dealings with you. In fact, given my sensitivity to "egocentric freaks", it is likely that if he exhibited such with me if I had ever met him, I might be in strong agreement with you.

However and in any case, with all due respect to you, and to answer your comment, the answer is "no", I do not think that I or any of the other commenters here are "nuts".

Thank you for leaving a comment.

I just read this news. He's a schoolmate. Oh my G... I can't believe it. Parang hindi totoo. Parang pelikula. I must have exchanged conversation with him once or twice.

Is there anyone out here who knows about the status of the case?

Tanga lang ang magsasabing robbery lang ito.

It's a condominium. Definitely may mga cameras yan.

nakakalungkot. kahit hindi kami magkakilala tlaga, ramdam ko ang shock.

- somebody message me please. philo.king@yahoo.com
